Last May Amber Grid organized the second online workshop of the Regatrace project. Over 40 participants joined this event. The goal of the workshop was to identify initial ideas and proposals for a national biomethane development plan.
Participants discussed that although biomethane is early development stage, but it is one of the important alternatives for achieving Lithuania’s national renewable energy commitments. The potential of biomethane is seen mainly in the transport sector, but also in the industrial and energy sectors, where guarantees of origin for biomethane can also cover CO2 reduction obligations. On the other hand, some stakeholders identified bureaucratic burdens related to developing biomethane projects and unclear biomethane demand in the future.
Next Amber Grid will prepare draft guidelines for the development of the Lithuanian biomethane sector and introduce them in the upcoming workshop.
