The new biomethane plant in Sinsheim operated by MVV, a German energy provider, and AVR, a waste recycling company, has recently fed the first biomethane produced from bio-waste into the German grid.
The plant is in regular operation since September 25th, 2019. Around 60,000 tons of biogenic waste are planned to be annually fermented, dried and marketed as quality-assured, certified compost. This compost contributes to the formation of humus and will thus contribute regional agriculture as a long-term organic fertilizer. The raw biogas produced in the fermentation process is processed into biomethane before it is fed into the natural gas grid via a new 4.3 km long gas pipeline built by MVV. Each year, biomethane with an energy content of around 51 million kilowatt hours is to be produced.
With this multi-stage recycling concept, the new bio-waste fermentation plant fulfills the criteria for sustainability and economic efficiency and is called as a prime example of an ecological resource cycle that combines regional climate protection with stable profitability.
